291 - The Dress

2021

     Daprima      Esmodonti           Fin

Tuesday morning in the living room …

DAPRIMA:
… so you and Racolo are engaged?

ESMODONTI:
Uh-huh, Roc got down on his knee and everything,
it nearly blew my mind.

DAPRIMA:
That’s wonderful! I’m so happy for you.

ESMODONTI:
… And get this - he wants us to get married Saturday.  He’s off
next week so we can have a real honeymoon - can’t ya just dig it!
- Oh sorry D, I really didn’t mean to steal your thunder.

DAPRIMA:
You haven’t. Fin and I aren’t getting married till after I
graduate and pass the bar. So it’s going to be a little while.
But this Saturday, that doesn’t give you much time to prepare …

FIN:
Prepare for what?

ESMODONTI:
Roc and me are getting hitched this Saturday. Check it out
- I’m gonna be a wife, me - the ol’ ball and chain. Ha-ha!

FIN:
I think it’s great. Congrats.

DAPRIMA:

Me too. Can I see your dress?

ESMODONTI:
Mon Dieu! I forgot all about the dress.
I guess I should get a something new, huh?

DAPRIMA:
Absolutely! Getting the dress is one of the perks. Are you
going to go traditional with the white gown and veil?

ESMODONTI:
I don’t think so, that’s not really my thing.

ESMODONTI:
… and since we’re having this shin-dig right here,
ya know what they say, less is best. Hey what are
you guys planning for your big day?

DAPRIMA:
Well, since I only have my brother and sister, and Io - we
were thinking of getting married in the Elvin realm
at Fin’s grandparent’s place.

FIN:
Of course, Daprima has to meet them first. We’re planning
a trip there in a few months, but nothing’s definite
- except that Grace will be a bridesmaid.

DAPRIMA:
Oh yes! And that she’s wearing pink, her favorite color.
It’s all she’s talked about since she saw my ring.

ESMODONTI:

I just dig your sister’s enthusiasm. Hey - what’s an Elvin
wedding like anyway? I’ve never seen one.

DAPRIMA:
I don’t even know. Babe?

FIN:
Well, from what I remember - the bride comes in from the east,
and the groom from the west, and their families follow. When
the two meet,  a circle is formed around them. Then an
elder administers the binding and the blessing.

ESMODONTI:
I dig that meeting in the middle part.

DAPRIMA:
Me too. Es, I think we should go shopping for your dress right now.

ESMODONTI:
That’d be fab! Oh but my little elf-kin’s still napping.
He usually sleeps about two hours …

FIN:
I’ll look after him for you. Go have fun.

ESMODONTI:
Oh Fin you’re such a doll. Thanks a bunch. I’ll go get my bag.

DAPRIMA:
Babe, you have to get word to Karanthir. You know she’ll want
him here, and he won’t want to miss this.

FIN:

I was thinking the same thing. It’s just so hard to communicate
with the Elvin realm. I know - I’ll ask Aless.

DAPRIMA:

Why Aless?

FIN:

He’s been magically pen-paling with Brynie ever since we left.
Hopefully they can get the news to Karanthir.
