In the dining room ...

CHINATSU:

Meg is down for her nap. I think we should talk.

TREY:

I agree. I'd like to see her again before I leave.

CHINATSU:

Of course, she is your daughter too.

TREY:

This is all so … new.

CHINATSU:

Yes.

TREY:

Ichida, I don't know when you time-traveled to … here, but

for me, our relationship took place over a hundred years ago.

CHINATSU:

Donado-san ...

TREY:

I'd really prefer it if you'd call me Trey.

CHINATSU:

And you may call me Chinatsu. Trey, when we were together,

I knew you would not stay in Kyoto. I did not expect anything more

from you than what we had. Still, I am happy to see you again.

VANNI:

ahem

Are we interrupting?

CHINATSU:

No, your timing is good.

CHINATSU:

...Trey, this is my brother, Vanni, and his wife, Syrrah.

They are here by my request.

SYRRAH:

Trey, how nice to see you again.

TREY:

Honored One, the pleasure's all mine.

CHINATSU:

You have met before?

SYRRAH:

Many times. Trey was a frequent visitor to Celestial Temple.

VANNI:

And of course, he visited you, wife.

SYRRAH:

He paid his respects, husband. May I say that in my experience, Trey has shown himself to be a reasonable man. I am certain he will do what is right for all concerned in this situation. Please sit.

VANNI:

Trey, my wife and I are here to help do what's best for Meg.

VANNI:

… The way I see it, Chinatsu's been the sole parent of Meg all her life. We think it's important for Meg to stay remain with her.

TREY:

I wouldn't dream of taking her away from here.

Chinatsu, is that what this is about?

CHINATSU:

I was concerned, but now, I am very relieved.

TREY:

Then I'm glad I could clear that up. However, I’m her

father and I plan to provide for her.

CHINATSU:

But I do not want your money.

VANNI:

Little sister, you can't deny him his responsibilities.

SYRRAH:

If I may make a suggestion?

SYRRAH:

… Chinatsu is very gifted in flower arranging

TREY:
Yes, I remember …

SYRRAH:
She mentioned to me that she would like to open her own flower shop.   Perhaps you could fund it, in Meg's name?

TREY:

That's a wonderful idea. I'd be happy to help.

What do you think Chinatsu?

CHINATSU:

Yes, I accept your gracious offer and I will work hard to make the shop a success.

Later  ...

SHICHI:

… I heard Meg's father's back. How are you adjusting?

CHINATSU:

There are no words to describe all the emotions I feel.

To see him again, to speak with him again, it is as

if I stepped back in time, like in a dream.

SHICHI:

Chinatsu I need to ask you something and I want

an honest answer. Are you still in love with him?

CHINATSU:

Oh Shichi - you need not be concerned about that. What I had with Trey was over before Meg was born. He is part of my past,  that is all.

SHICHI:
I’m glad to hear that.

CHINATSU:

I must tell you something more. I am opening a flower shop.

Perhaps you would like to work for me, that is if you're

willing to have me for a boss-lady.

SHICHI:

I'm accustomed to being ordered about by women. That is the way of

my clan - my job, as prince, is to be entertaining and adored.

CHINATSU:

You have just described the role of a geisha.
