After his parents died, Karanthir began to live in the moment because in his view, there may not be another one. Always the restless child, he ran away from home with his brother Fin.
One day they came upon a castle. Fin was curious and wanted to investigate. The two found the door and went inside. This tripped a lock and the door slammed shut. They found themselves trapped inside with now way out. Then a voice came to them from the darkness, giving them a choice: one could go if one would stay as punishment for entering. Fin told Karanthir to go. When the door opened for him to leave, he shoved Fin out. Then the door slammed shut, all the windows vanished, and Karanthir was left inside.

Karanthir doesn't remember much about his captivity. He knows it was dark, he was in chains and he was tormented by the Sorceress daily. To prolong her fun, she made him immortal - a half vampire. He was never bitten, nor has he ever fed from another, a servant would bring him a sip of blood, just enough to sustain him.

Meanwhile, Fin tried everything he could to break into the castle with no success. He went for help and found *Shichi, one of Karanthir’s ex-lovers. Shichi knew magic, just enough to be of assistance. He recognized the castle and knew that another lived there, someone he knew. He summoned her. Ilsa appeared. She and the Sorceress were sisters. Ilsa listened to Fin's story and agreed to help. She and Shichi magically entered the castle. Fin heard a loud explosion.  When the smoke cleared,  Shichi stood in front of him and in his hands he held Karanthir’s head. He then

explained that Karanthir was ensorcelled and still alive. In time he would heal and his body would regenerate. Fin thanked Shichi and they went their separate ways. 

Around this time, Fin received a letter from Daprima inviting him to come live in with her in the home of the Lady with the Dog. He took Karanthir there.
Karanthir did heal and became whole again, but he is now was half vampire. What exactly is a half vampire?  He has yet to fully comprehend the answer.

Love
Zyfan is Karanthir's first real love. Prior to the prince, Karanthir jumped from man to woman, elf to human, and experienced everything to its fullest. That all changed when he met the prince. Karanthir had to have him, so he began his pursuit. Zyfan played hard to get. Finally, they went on their first date to Karanthir's favorite place, the cemetery. He told the prince about his parents. Hearing him speak of something so personal was all it took to win Zyfan’s heart.
Karanthir thoroughly enjoyed wooing Zyfan. The prince was special. One night Zyfan blurted out how much he loved Karanthir. It was then that Karanthir realized he felt the same way. They’ve  been exclusive ever since. 

Daprima  

Karanthir feels a deep connection to Daprima. They were pen-pals as children. Karanthir teases Fin by saying she belonged to him first. There  isn't much truth to that. Daprima is one of a few who can hold her own with him. He admires her and values her opinion.

Esmodonti  

When Es first arrived, she and Karanthir enjoyed a flirty, open, sexual relationship. Over time, they discovered they had much in common beside being vampires. Es knows Karanthir well. It was she who made him realize he was in love with Zyfan. Karanthir gave Es away at her wedding. 

Mez  

Karanthir has a soft spot for Mez. One evening Mez got drunk and Karanthir lured him into bed. Nothing happened. Mez would like to forget about it but Karanthir won't let him. Since then, Karanthir feels the need to protect Mez, and looks out for him, in his own way.

Phae  

-  is Zyfan’s fiancee. Karanthir is the love of Zyfan’s life. It’s very normal for elves to live in these circumstances. Phae and Karanthir have formed an alliance to do whatever is necessary to see Zyfan happy. The two have become allies.

*Shichi  

- and Karanthir were once lovers. They never had a falling out, Shichi needed to go in a different direction, so he left.  When they met again in this realm, Karanthir discovered that Shichi had slept with Fin. Never one to hold a grudge, he didn't mind, well maybe a little.

Syrrah 

Karanthir respects  Syrrah. When she first joined the Crew he tried to seduce her. He failed. Then  younger brother Zyfan arrived, and Karanthir fell hard for him.  Karanthir knows he has an ally in Syrrah. They are both  working on the same goal, to protect Zyfan, the next One.
