KARANTHIR:
Zyfan, what in the world are you doing up there?
ZYFAN:
Greetings Karanthir. The most amazing thing
is happening. Snowflakes are falling from the sky.
It is such a wonderful sight to see.
KARANTHIR:
Wonderful? I find it downright depressing.
ZYFAN:
I find it breathtaking. This is the first snow I have
ever seen. Would you like to come watch with me?
ZYFAN:
... It looks as if we are viewing the world through a
white veil. It is amazing, is it not?
KARANTHIR:
It's ghastly Zyfan. I hate snow. It's too cold. It makes
the sidewalks slippery, and I'm forced to hide
my beautiful body under a thick coat.
ZYFAN:
Is it really very cold?
KARANTHIR:
Of course it’s cold. Cold and wet. If you're so curious,
why not go outside and see for yourself? It won't take long
for you to discover what a nuisance it truly is.
ZYFAN:
I wish I could, but Syrrah forbids it.
KARANTHIR:
Who is she to deny you this? You're a prince! You can do whatever
you like. Didn’t you come here to experience life? Stick with me,
and I'll provide you with all the experience you’ll ever want.
ZYFAN:
But, she said I must wait for the proper attire. Vanni will
bring it home this evening. All I need do is wait one day.
The snow will still be here tomorrow, will it not?
KARANTHIR:
Unfortnately we're going to be stuck with this mess for a quite while. Zyfan, why do you do everything you're told to? I had no
idea a prince would be so obedient.
ZYFAN:
You must understand that I am a warrior, and a warrior
follows orders. I trust Syrrah has my best interests at heart.
She is my sister and my Priestess. I see no reason to question her.
KARANTHIR:
So you're good at following orders eh? Tell me,
who else can give you orders?
ZYFAN:
I do not know what you mean.
KARANTHIR:
For instance, do you obey your elders?
ZYFAN:
You mean my parents or my Uncle, the One?
KARANTHIR:
Just elders in general, like me for instance? After all
I'm older than you. I would love to broaden your
horizons, if you're interested - that is.
ZYFAN:
I do not think so. You see - how can I say this?
I have been told, by many who reside here, that
your intentions are … not always pure.
KARANTHIR:
Those cowards! The nerve of them talking about me behind my back.
I bet I know just who they are too. My intentions not pure - really!
Enjoy watching your snow Zyfan, I've had quite enough.
Karanthir storms off.
Later, in Mez and Zyfan's room ...
KARANTHIR:
May I come in?
ZYFAN:
Karanthir, I am so happy to see you. I hope I did not hurt your
feelings earlier. I should not have told you what the others
said. That was wrong of me and I apologize.
KARANTHIR:
Zyfan, dear boy, don't give it a second thought.
I just stopped by to give you this.
ZYFAN:
You have brought me ... snow?
KARANTHIR:
Just a tiny sample. I didn't want you to
wait until tomorrow to experience it.
ZYFAN:
Oh thank you. May I touch it?
KARANTHIR:
It's yours to do with as you please, but you best hurry
for it will soon be nothing more than a jar of water.
ZYFAN:
But, how is that possible?
KARANTHIR:
It’ll melt.
ZYFAN:
Fascinating.
KARANTHIR:
You’re fascinated by the strangest things. I can’t
believe you’ve never seen snow before. Didn’t you attend
Magick School with Racolo? Isn't that up north?
ZYFAN:
Yes, but it is very much an underground city. I was not permitted
to leave the campus. I never went outside ... Oh it is so cold and wet.
ZYFAN:
… I really do appreciate this Karanthir, and I shall treasure it forever.
KARANTHIR:
Think nothing of it.
ZYFAN:
That I will not do. This is so very kind of you. Perhaps I have
prematurely judged you? I promise not to make that mistake again.
