DAPRIMA:

… Mez, I need your help. Grace’s dance teacher added another 

class. So, I’ll need you to pick her up on Thursdays.

MEZ:

Why is it always me? Am I the only person

around here who knows how to use the subway?

DAPRIMA:

I’m not asking you to do anymore than I am. 

I can get her there but you’ll have to pick her up. 

She’s our sister, and our responsibility.

FIN:

Maybe I can offer a suggestion …

MEZ:

Is she? Well, our responsibility is out of control, 

and she’s driving me nuts. I’m not doing it. 

Thursday's my only free day.

FIN:

I think I can help …

MEZ:

I’m not interested in any solution that involves me. Read Noli a story, 

pick Grace up, help Brynie with the computer, I’m done. I can’t 

even escape to my room  because Lithium may be sleeping. 

No, I’m through. Find someone else.

MEZ:

Who are you kidding? You got that job for one reason - employee  discount. This is just another excuse for you to boss me around.

DAPRIMA:

Maybe if you took some initiative, I wouldn’t 

have to boss you around so much.

FIN:

... Daprima, Mez is right.

MEZ:

I am?

DAPRIMA:

But you have your own classes, and your job 

- how will you get there in time?

FIN:

I said I’d take care of it and I will. I think it’s time my

brother started helping out.

FIN:

…Mez, could you tell Karanthir I want to see him?

MEZ:

Love to! And thanks Fin, you're the best.

DAPRIMA:

You can’t possibly be suggesting that Karanthir do it?

FIN:

Why not? He doesn’t do anything after school.

Trust me, it’ll be OK.

In the ‘library’ …

KARANTHIR:

… Hey Mez, I've been meaning to ask you, how are 

you handling Cammeo’s newly found 

preference for another fellow?

MEZ:
Huh?

KARANTHIR:

Oh come now, don’t you see that her heart has been stolen by another? It must be difficult competing with a baby for her attention. You truly are in a predicament. You can’t be jealous of the baby, can you?  Yet, how can you not be resentful of the little lad 

for taking up so much of her time.

MEZ:

I don’t know what you’re talking about.

KARANTHIR:

Don’t you? When was the last time you two had a moment alone? Am I not 

correct when I say that Lithium is always at her side? And what about daddy-dearest? He certainly is … charming, surely you’ve noticed. I wonder - has Cammeo? Perhaps you’re right, and my overactive imagination is getting the better of me. I’m sure you have nothing to worry about. 

Well, I’d better see what Fin wants.

In the living room …

KARANTHIR:

You beckoned, master.

FIN:

Cut that out. Listen, a situation has come up and I need 

your help. Grace needs someone to pick her up after 

dance class on Thursdays. I thought, you wouldn’t mind.

KARANTHIR:

It's my understanding that Mez escorts her home.

FIN:

He does, but he’s stretched a bit thin lately. Since your 

schedule is, well, open, I thought you could do it.

KARANTHIR:

In other words, dear brother, Mez is no longer willing to pick up 

his sister. This is no surprise since Grace has been very 

vocal about not speaking to him. So to impress your girlfriend, 

 you, in your infinite wisdom, volunteered moi.

FIN:

Grace isn’t speaking to him? Since when? And, I don’t need to

impress Daprima. They were arguing and even you have to admit

that Mez is doing a lot more around here since Vanni left. 

FIN:

I see you have her best interests in mind. So you’ll do it?

KARANTHIR:

Certainly. I’m happy to help.
