39 - Doesn’t Anyone Knock?
Monday night, in Vanni and Mez's room…
RACOLO:
OK Lith, why in the world did you bring me here?
LITHIUM:
Ozu-goo-ba-ba
RACOLO:
Easy for you to say …
BRYNIE:
Hi, it’s me Brynie. I need to borrow Mez's laptop.
Is it OK if I come in?
RACOLO:
OK.
BRYNIE:
I like your baby, Racolo. I hope you change your mind and stay.
RACOLO:
Thanks, but I think there's enough people living here.
BRYNIE:
You think? Let’s see, there’s Mez, he's picking up Grace at dance
class. Just wait till you meet her -big hair, big mouth!
Then there’s Es - she’s evil.
RACOLO:
Evil?
BRYNIE:
She’s a vampire. I don’t like vampires. My brother Karanthir's
a vampire too, well only half. Anyway, there’s
Vanni and Syrrah, they’re visiting the Elvin realm.
She’s one of the Daughters of IlluminatA.
RACOLO:
That's a pretty big deal. She must be part of the Mountain Clan.
BRYNIE:
That's right, how do you know that?
RACOLO:
I spent a summer with the Mountain Clan.
One of my classmates was from there.
BRYNIE:
I’ve never been there myself. Maybe you could tell me about
it sometime? Guess I'll just take the laptop and let you
get ready for bed. Could you let Mez know I have it?
Later ...
GRACE:
Hello I’m Grace. I’ve come to welcome you to my house.
This is my house, you know. I would’ve been here sooner
but my stupid brother was late picking me up. Anyway,
which one are you, Lithium or Racolo?
RACOLO:
Racolo and this is Lithium.
GRACE:
Oh. So, is Lithium a good baby?
RACOLO:
A good baby?
GRACE:
Yes, a good baby. I need to know if he's going to cry a lot.
I don’t like to hear babies cry. It makes me sad, yes it does.
So is he a good baby?
RACOLO:
I guess.
GRACE:
You don’t sound very sure. I don’t think it was a hard question. So, how
long are you staying? You can sleep in Vanni’s bed now, but when he
and Syrrah get back, you’ll have to move. Syrrah’s my best friend.
GRACE:
…That’s her in those pictures. Isn’t she pretty? I think so. Well,
isn’t she? You know, when a person asks you a question,
the polite thing to do is to answer them.
RACOLO:
I was waiting for you to take a breath.
GRACE:
Are you being fresh with me?
RACOLO:
I don’t think so.
GRACE:
You seem confused. It's a good thing you're here, cause I can
help you with that, yes I can. Now try to keep up. I asked you if you
thought Syrrah was pretty, in the pictures, behind you.
RACOLO:
That's Syrrah? She looks familiar.
GRACE:
Of course that’s Syrrah, I just told you who she is.
My goodness you’re difficult to talk to.
MEZ:
Grace, what are you doing here? You know I
don’t want you in my room.
GRACE:
I had to come and say hello to Racolo and Lithium.
Lithium's the baby, yes he is, and you're in for a lot of
trouble because he cries a lot.
RACOLO:
I never said that.
MEZ:
I've had to listen to you all the way home. Now go away.
GRACE:
I’m not the one who forgot to pick up his adorable little
sister from dance class, am I?
MEZ:
I didn’t forget. I told you I was just late.
GRACE:
You were late because you got halfway home and then
realized that you forgot something – ME.
MEZ:
As if I could ever forget you. Now go - your Hello Kitty is calling you.
GRACE:
You can’t hear her calling me. Only I can, but you
may be right. G'night Racolo, nice meeting you
and your noisy little baby.
RACOLO
So that’s Grace. Brynie was right - big hair, big mouth. - No offense.
MEZ:
None taken. I’m Mez. I guess we’re room mates.
RACOLO:
Just for the night. So, Daprima and Grace are both your sisters?
MEZ:
Yeah, welcome to my nightmare. Where the … I could’ve
sworn I left my laptop here.
RACOLO:
Brynie borrowed it.
MEZ:
Great. I’ll be right back.
NOLI:
Hi, me Noli. Who you?
RACOLO:
Racolo and this is Lithium.
NOLI:
Noli not s’pose to talk to strangers.
RACOLO:
Oh, sorry.
NOLI:
Why him so small?
RACOLO:
He’s just a baby.
NOLI:
What him doing?
RACOLO:
Sleeping. If you’re quiet, you can take a closer look.
NOLI:
Not s’pose to talk to strangers.
RACOLO:
Noli, since I know your name and you know mine
- we're not really strangers anymore.
NOLI:
Mez!
MEZ:
Uh-oh, I know what you’re thinking Noli but ….
NOLI:
Mez you forget me again!
MEZ:
I didn’t forget, I swear. I’m running late. I was just coming
to read you your story, really. You believe me, don't you?
NOLI:
Maybe.
MEZ:
Let’s go. See ya later Racolo.
A little later ...
KARANTHIR:
Disrobing, for me? How sweet.
RACOLO:
Doesn’t anyone knock around here?
KARANTHIR:
Had I knocked, just look what I would’ve missed. Don’t let
me interrupt you, do go on, and if you need any assistance
removing those skin-tight pants, I’ll happily volunteer my services.
RACOLO:
What do you want?
KARANTHIR:
What do I want or why am I here? Two very different things
dear fellow. I'm waiting for Mez. I'll just take a seat, here, and
enjoy the rest of the show. You don't mind, do you?
MEZ:
Karanthir how many times do I have to tell you
- you’re not allowed in my room.
KARANTHIR:
My sincerest apologies for entering your sanctuary ...
KARANTHIR:
… but I’ll have you know that Noli was quite distraught when you
weren't here in time for her bedtime story.
MEZ:
I just came from her room and she’s fine. What do you care?
KARANTHIR:
It was I who went out of my way to keep the poor dear
occupied while you took your time arriving home.
MEZ:
You? Where’s Cammeo?
KARANTHIR:
My dear, uninformed Mez, really, I don't know how you
can live here and be so unaware as to what's going on around you.
Cammeo and Daprima are shopping for a crib.
MEZ:
A crib?
MEZ:
… I thought you were only staying the night.
RACOLO:
I am, but no one believes me.
KARANTHIR:
Well gentlemen, I’m off to meet Es - who should be
getting off work right about now. Oh and Magic Boy
- I look forward to seeing more of you tomorrow.
RACOLO:
For the last time, I won't be here tomorrow.
