346 - A Spark

2024

     Harmonia          Jesse                   Lu

Wednesday in Harmonia & Lu’s sitting room …

HARMONIA:
… I’ll get right to it cause I hate it when folks beat around the bush.
Neve tells me you can drive a trailer - is that true?

JESSE:
Uh, yeah …

HARMONIA:
I’m looking for someone to transport a horse from Texas to here.

JESSE:
Did my little sister volunteer me for this? I’m gonna kill her.

HARMONIA:
Now don’t get all uppity. First off this is a paying job. I’ll fly ya

there and you’ll drive on back. Easy peasy. Are ya interested?

JESSE:
I can’t. My classes are starting …

HARMONIA:
As are Tahariel’s. We’re heading to her daddy’s ranch in
two days. You’ll be back in plenty of time.

JESSE:

Tahariel’s going?

HARMONIA:

Didn’t I mention that? Patience is her horse

- that’s who we’re aiming to bring from there to here.

JESSE:
And she’ll be driving back with me, like - all the way?

HARMONIA:
She’s not about to let that horse out of her sight.
So of course she’ll be along for the ride. I can guarantee it.

JESSE:
Yeah, sure, I’ll do it.

HARMONIA:
Alrighty, we’ll talk more about the particulars after supper. I need to tell my husband we have two more coming to Texas with me.

JESSE:
Two more?

HARMONIA:
Didn’t I mention that I’ve invited Neve?

JESSE:
My sister! What for?

HARMONIA:
She wants to meet my little boy, plus she’ll be good

company for ya’ll on your drive back.

HARMONIA:
… Sorry to rush ya out of here but I’ve got some arrangements
to make. I’ll give ya an update directly. Bye now.

JESSE:

But ….

Later in the kitchen …

LU:
Harm, why did you hire Jesse to get Patience?

HARMONIA:
The boy has experience driving a trailer. I called his uncle
and got a good reference from him.

LU:
You are aware that Tahariel’s not happy about this?

HARMONIA:
Do I ever. All she does is complain about him. I also know  he manages to get her all riled up every time she sees him. I believe that boy is under her skin.

LU:
And you think it’s a good idea to put the two of them, in a truck,
together, for a 1,233.4 mile trip?

HARMONIA:
Well, I think we can both agree that that boy’s a dog. Now if my little girl
is drawn to him, the sooner we find out the better. Besides, they won’t
be alone, I’ve invited little Neve to go along for the ride.

LU:
She’ll make the perfect chaperone. I expect her
presence should keep them on their best behavior.

HARMONIA:
Exactly, and she’ll tell me everything when they get back. If there’s

a spark growin’ between those two, I’m only moving’ things along a bit.

LU:

I think you’re playing with fire.

HARMONIA:
Maybe, maybe not. If I’m right, then  we’ll be in for a heap a trouble - ‘cause
that boy needs a lot of fixin’ before I’ll even  consider letting him
keep company with my Tahariel.
