310 - A Courtesy Call
2022
Vanni Syrrah Pica
In Syrrah & Vanni’s sitting room …
VANNI:
… I need to check on my gallery, your clinic
and Chinatsu’s flower shop.
SYRRAH:
Tell me husband, now that your sister has decided to
remain in the Elvin realm indefinitely, how long do you
plan to manage her business, as well as ours?
VANNI:
I’m not sure. I guess we’ll see.
SYRRAH:
Yes, we shall.
VANNI:
I’ll be back in time for dinner.
SYRRAH:
And you, Pica dear-one, need to take your nap now.
SYRRAH:
… Did you forget something?
VANNI:
Wife?
SYRRAH:
Husband, you have changed your outfit, and your hair.
VANNI:
Well I …
VANNI:
… Is that our Lita, I mean Pica?
SYRRAH:
I just realized you are from the future, are you not?
VANNI:
I am. I guess I just missed me. I had a feeling I should have shown
myself right away - but I wanted to find something to wear first.
SYRRAH:
Ah yes, when you time travel you arrive with nothing at all.
That is most inconvenient. Who is Lita?
VANNI:
I never could get anything past you. She’s the reason I’m here.
SYRRAH:
Husband, we agreed you would never indulge information
to me about the future, and yet, here you are.
VANNI:
This is more of a courtesy call.
SYRRAH:
Explain.
VANNI:
Our daughter, in my time, has learned to time travel and
will be paying you a visit soon.
SYRRAH:
I see.
VANNI:
When she returned to my time after being here - she
told me how upset she was about arriving naked. I’m here
to ensure you have adequate clothing waiting for her.
SYRRAH:
It will be done. I will need to know her size and perhaps you can
tell me when to expect her but first - who is Lita?
VANNI:
Lita is Pica, or vice versa.
SYRRAH:
I see. What is the reason behind the name change?
VANNI:
Well, she’ll be staying with you a while and it’d confusing
having two Picas in the house. She prefers Lita, after my
sister. It’s just another nickname from Picalita.
SYRRAH:
Your sister, the youngest and most rebellious one? I admit I am
a little concerned about that. This will take some getting used to.
VANNI:
I know, but she didn’t like Pica, I mean being called Pica
- which she’ll explain to you when she gets here.
SYRRAH:
I see. Is there anything more you can tell me?
VANNI:
Only that I’d love to hold her. It’s been a while since she
was so tiny, in my time.
SYRRAH:
Of course. Will you stay for dinner? If you do you shall see yourself.
VANNI:
I’d rather not. It’s always a little odd when that happens.
SYRRAH:
I see.
VANNI:
But I’m happy to stay and look after Pica as long you need me to.
If I remember correctly, you’re about to have a talk with Es.
SYRRAH:
Indeed I am. It is a conversation that is long overdue.
