20 - Concern

2005

Wednesday afternoon ...

CAMMEO:

A rare afternoon to myself.

KARANTHIR:

Sorry, didn't know you were in here.

CAMMEO:

Oh ... hullo Karanthir. I thought you had gone to

the park with the others.

KARANTHIR:

I did, but then I began feeling run down.

CAMMEO:

Are you ill?

KARANTHIR:

It's sweet of you to ask. But I don't want to make you

uncomfortable. I seem to say the wrong thing to you, and

for that I'm truly sorry. Perhaps I should go?

CAMMEO:

No, if you're not feeling well, maybe I can help. What's the matter?

KARANTHIR:

I've been having these terrible headaches and, I’m so tired.

CAMMEO:

Perhaps you just need a good lie in. I'll fix you something

to help you sleep. Be back in a jif.

In the foyer ...

CAMMEO:

Mez, you're home early.

MEZ:

I saw Karanthir leaving, so I followed him. Is he here?

CAMMEO:

In the living room. He’s not well, I think he’s quite ill.

MEZ:

He's probably just looking for attention.

CAMMEO:

No really Mez, I think he's being sincere. He seems … different.

and looks so pale. I’m a bit worried.

MEZ:

This - I have to see.

CAMMEO:

I'm going to fix him some warm milk. Promise me, you'll be nice.

MEZ:

I'm always nice.

In the living room ...

MEZ:

Cammeo’s getting you some warm milk.

KARANTHIR:

Warm milk? Is that what she's fixing for me? I was hoping

for something a bit stronger. Warm milk - is so ...

MEZ:

Nasty.

KARANTHIR:

Precisely. Hopefully I'll be asleep before she returns.

I guess you're here to keep an eye on me - eh?

MEZ:

Someone has to. Are you really sick or is

this another one of your tricks?

KARANTHIR:

You don't trust me.

Mez:

That’s right.

KARANTHIR:

Are you going to strike me again? I'm really not up to it. I

simply don’t have the energy to defend myself, so be

sure to knock me out so I'll get some sleep.

MEZ:

I didn't come here to fight, and I’ve already apologized to you for the other day. Like I said, Cammeo was crying and I ... I lost it.

KARANTHIR:

You really are smitten with her, aren’t you?

MEZ:

You’re the last person I want talk to about her.

I’ll go see what’s taking her so long.

KARANTHIR:

Please, don't go. I'm not teasing you. I'm really not

well. I've been having these nightmares, they leave me with

a feeling of dread. I've become a little afraid to sleep.

MEZ:

How long has this been going on?

KARANTHIR:

A few weeks. I'm so tired. Perhaps you could stay

near, in case I need to be woken up?

MEZ:

This better not be a trick.

KARANTHIR:
No, really.

Later ...

CAMMEO:

He’s asleep?

MEZ:

I think so.

CAMMEO:

Would you fancy a cup of warm milk?

MEZ:

No thanks. Why don't you finish practicing your violin,

in the kitchen?

CAMMEO:

What about Karanthir?

MEZ:

I'll stay with him.

CAMMEO:

You think he's ill too, don't you?

MEZ:

I’m not sure.

CAMMEO:

Do you think we ought to mention this to the

others, in case he doesn't?

MEZ:

I’ll tell Fin. He’ll know what to do.
