Thursday, in Racolo’s office at Magick School ...
RACOLO:
Syrrah, what are you doing here?
SYRRAH:
I have come to see you of course. Is this not a good time?
RACOLO:
It's fine. Have a seat.
SYRRAH:
I shall get right to my purpose. Usagi believes
Karanthir’s recent illness was caused by poisoning.
RACOLO:
I know, Vanni told me.
SYRRAH:
I must know for certain and I believe you can be of great help.
RACOLO:
You got it. What can I do?
SYRRAH:
As you know, I have been working as a healing consultant for your human
medical doctors. I do not always understand their ways but have found
that they are able to find many answers from the drawing of one's blood.
RACOLO:
Isn't it a little late for that? Karanthir's already cured.
SYRRAH:
He is, but when he first became ill, I took a sample to the lab.
SYRRAH:
… Perhaps, once they have studied it - you can view the results to
see if a potion could have been made that would cause his illness?
RACOLO:
I’ll try. It’ll be interesting to see what could poison a vampire - if that’s
what happened. Man, if only I still had my grandmother's book.
SYRRAH:
Qualina wrote a book?
RACOLO:
Uh-huh. She studied vampires. They were her area of expertise - I don't mean the way she is now, but back when she was my grandmother
– the woman who raised me.
SYRRAH:
Her older self.
RACOLO:
Uh-huh. She kept her notes in a book - years of research, on what makes
vampires tick. I came across it but lost it before I had a chance to look at it.
SYRRAH:
Why have I never been told of this?
RACOLO:
Well, I’m … embarrassed, misplacing that book.
SYRRAH:
Where is Qualina now? Perhaps she may still know something of value?
RACOLO:
No, she's just beginning to understand magic. Like you said, we need
her older self. When I first realized the book was missing, I tried a summoning spell to find it. That's how she ended up here in the first place.
SYRRAH:
I wonder why her younger self arrived instead of this book?
RACOLO:
I’ve been trying to figure that out ever since she got here. All I’ve come up with is - maybe she needed to meet Es to give her this purpose?
SYRRAH:
That is a good theory. Racolo. If Qualina cannot help us, perhaps
you know of another who has a knowledge of vampires?
RACOLO:
You may want to talk to Cammeo. She was a Seeker back in the day.
SYRRAH:
I am not familiar with Seeker.
RACOLO:
Vampire hunter. I don't know much about them except they worked with some Committee, who trained them, and sent them on missions.
SYRRAH:
Cammeo did this? How surprising. I will speak with her. Perhaps this Committee will be of use to us too? Thank you, you have been most helpful.
Later ...
CAMMEO:
… I prefer not to think of my time as a Seeker. I wasn't very happy then,
but I understand how important this is. I don’t think the Committee will
be much help to you. They're not known for being very forth coming.
SYRRAH:
I am a Daughter of IlluminatA, they surely will know of me and cooperate.
CAMMEO:
I suppose, but Herita may be of more help to you. She was always
studying ways to make potions to assist us in our hunts.
SYRRAH:
Explain.
CAMMEO:
Well you see, out of the two us, I was the better fighter. Herita would
compensate by creating potions. In the middle of a battle, she’d toss in one of her concoctions, vapors would flow from the broken vial
and confuse the vampires. It made it easier for me to terminate them.
SYRRAH:
So, she was a Seeker too?
CAMMEO:
Oh yes. We were quite the team. I hate to think how violent it all
was back then. I’ll let her know you need to speak to her.
SYRRAH:
Please do. And thank you for your help.
