Friday afternoon in Syrrah and Vanni's room ...

GRACE:

Look at her …

GRACE:

... She's still sleeping, yes she is. Is that normal? Do you think

she's supposed to sleep this much? She must be very tired. What does she do that makes her so sleepy? I wonder, I really do.

GRACE:

… Syrrah, why are you packing Pica's things? Is she going on a trip?

SYRRAH:

No, young Grace, she will be spending the evening with her Uncle Zyfan.

GRACE:

Why?

SYRRAH:

He wishes to spend more time with her. This will give me

an opportunity to inform Vanni of my work, at the hospital.

GRACE:

You mean he doesn’t know you have a job?

SYRRAH:

He does not. You must promise not to tell him.

GRACE:

Oh sure. You know I can keep a secret, yes I can. He’ll be so surprised.

SYRRAH:

Yes, I believe he will be.

Later ...

SYRRAH:

Greetings husband. And how was your day? You are not too tired are you?

VANNI:

I’m not tired at all. Why do I get the feeling you're up to something?

SYRRAH:

Perhaps I am. I have plans for us. We are celebrating.

VANNI:
We are?

SYRRAH:

Oh yes. I have made all the arrangements. First, we will ride

to the ocean on that motorcycle of yours. We will enjoy the sunset

together. Then we shall indulge in a lovely meal at a restaurant that

Racolo has recommended. I have created reservations for us.

VANNI:

Reservations? That sounds expensive. I just

started this job. I don’t mean to ruin your plans but,

how do you expect us to pay for this?

SYRRAH:

Did I not mention I have taken care of everything?

VANNI:

Yes, but you didn’t say how.

SYRRAH:

Well husband, let me tell you my surprise so you can rest easy.

I have acquired a position in the hospital as a healer.

 It was Daprima’s idea.

SYRRAH:

... This morning they presented me with this piece of paper.

VANNI:

That's ... a paycheck.

SYRRAH:

I am aware of that husband. Daprima explained it to me. And starting next week, it will appear weekly in our bank account.

It will be enough to purchase our dinner tonight, yes?

VANNI:

I can’t believe this …

SYRRAH:

Is something wrong? I only went to the hospital to help those

in need. It is one of my duties as Priestess. I did not ask for

compensation but they insisted I take it.

VANNI:

You’re an amazing woman. How did I ever get so lucky?

SYRRAH:

You are pleased?

VANNI:

This is more than I earn in a month at the book store.

SYRRAH:

You know I do not concern myself with that sort of thing.

So GioVanni, we will celebrate, yes?

VANNI:

Sure but - what about Pica?

SYRRAH:

That is another part of my surprise. Zyfan has

volunteered to watch her, all night.

VANNI:

Did he? Oh I would love to see the look on

Karanthir's face when he finds out.

SYRRAH:

He will enjoy every minute of our daughter's company,

but he shall never admit it, such is his way. Ahhh but this

pleases you more, does it not?

VANNI:

I must admit, it sweetens the pot.

SYRRAH:

That is good. Husband, we do not need to leave for some time yet.

Will you show me how pleased you are?

VANNI:

I love it when you order me around.
